Description

Please join us at the Ridgefield Library on Wednesday, July 10th at 6:30 PM for a very special author talk presentation.  The Ridgefield Historical Society and the Ridgefield Library present Hiking Ruins of Southern New England: A Guide to 40 Sites in Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island with Dr. Nick Bellantoni, Emeritus CT State Archaeologist. Please register HERE.

Nick Bellantoni's name is familiar to locals who've been following the saga of the four skeletons discovered on the site of the Battle of Ridgefield in late 2019.  Then just about to retire as State Archaeologist, he spent days in a cold dirt basement painstakingly uncovering the remains of four young men, believed to have been soldiers. Research on the skeletons' identity is ongoing.

Dr. Bellantoni will give an illustrated presentation and signing for his new guidebook at the Library on the 10th. There will be a reception after Dr. Ballantoni's talk hosted by the Ridgefield Historical Society. Books on the Common will have copies for purchase.

More about the book, Hiking Ruins of Southern New England:

Many people have no idea that there are archaeological sites in the area, on public lands where they are allowed to hike.  Each of the 40 hikes in his book is described with a map and summary information that delivers the trail's vital statistics, including distance, difficulty, fees and permits, schedule, canine compatibility and trail contacts. Directions to the trailhead are provided, along with a general description of what you'll see along the way. A detailed route finder (miles and directions) describes significant landmarks along the trail.
